This is the last part of my itinerary for Cambodia and Vietnam holiday packages. Thank you for reading.
Day 10: HO CHI MINH CITY
Because of its fertile nature forms the Mekong Delta in Vietnam, rice-field could be harvested three times a year. Some areas really were still unexplored and not accessible by roads. In My Tho, the boat took me from the Tien Giang river to a fruit farm. On this island I could taste various kinds of fruits. Then we drove a horse cart to the bee farm and in this farm we enjoy tea and sweets. Then we sailed through the narrow canals of the Mekong Delta. We stopped at the Vinh Trang pagoda. In the afternoon we drove back to Saigon.
Day 11: HO CHI MINH CITY – PHNOM PENH (Cambodia)
THE TUNNEL COMPLEX CU CHI
In the morning I drove to the Cu Chi tunnel complex. This was 300 km long network of underground tunnels which had been used for the North Vietnamese to fight against the Americans. It was even extended to include the American military base. You could explore the tunnels to see how the local people and the resistance fighters survived here. After this experience we drove to the border of Cambodia.
Day 12: PHNOM PENH
KILLING FIELDS, S-21, SILVER PAGODA AND ROYAL PALACE OF PHNOM PENH
After checking in the hotel, we visited the Royal Palace. This was built from early 20th century. Near Royal Palace there is Silver Pagoda which is the most luxury and impressive pagoda in the city. Then we drove to Wat Phnom, on top of a hill. This sanctuary is the oldest in the city. Traveling here, you should not miss Russian market where you’ll find a wide variety of souvenirs. After lunch we visit the prison of Tuol Sleng. This school, also be known as S-21, had been turned into a prison by Pol Pot and his Khmer Rouge in the past. Then we drove to the extermination camp of Choeung Ek, about 15 km southwest of Phnom Penh.
Day 13: PHNOM PENH – SIEM REAP
CRUISE ON LAKE Tonle Sap
In the afternoon you drove to the Tonle Sap lake, about 15 km from south Siem Reap. This is literally and figuratively the heart of the country, which comes in and comes out to the rhythm of the monsoon. This is one of the best fishing grounds in the world. On a traditional boat, we sail past the floating village, where we saw a lot of interesting things: Huts of bamboo and straw, children playing on the floating school, women going shopping in a canoe, pigs and chickens in their coops driving … We sailed to the Tonle Sap lake ourselves. On the way I also visited the fish farms, which are the main source of income for the residents. Then we went back to the hotel.
Day 14: SIEM REAP
ANGKOR TEMPLES OF ANGKOR WAT AND THOM
After breakfast we took a tour to Angkor Thom. I entered the city through the south gate. The Bayon temple was looked like in the middle of something magical. 200 giant heads with terrifying eyes staring in all directions was put inside the temple. In the afternoon we visited Ta Prohm, the jungle temple. You will be surprised by the astonishing beauty of this temple!
